With over 65 years of experience, Alvan Blanch have an in-depth understanding of drying and know that it is an ancient way of preserving crops and other materials. By its very habitat, seaweed is very high in moisture when first harvested; we have created a solution to ensure this moisture is reduced and the seaweed is preserved.
Seaweed is packed with nutrition, as a source of iron, zinc, vitamin B, vitamin K and iodine. This means that seaweed is utilised across a variety of applications including, animal and human consumption, fertiliser and biomass.
Drying seaweed prior to processing can extend the life of the product by up to two years. Although most seaweed is processed shortly after harvesting and drying, the drying process greatly extends this window. When first harvested, seaweed can have a moisture content as high as 95%; a moisture content this high would mean the plant would quickly begin to break down. The desired moisture content for processing is around 10%.
CD22000 Seaweed Dryer
Although drying is essential, the over-heating of the seaweed can potentially deplete the levels of dense nutrients within.
The drying process must be gentle, but effective. As seaweed is also a non-free flowing product, our Conveyor and
Rotary Dryers are the best solution for the efficient drying of seaweed.
